Privacy Policy

SiftReviews is a browser extension that reads a passage you highlight, or the page you are on, and reports how likely the writing is to have been generated. It also checks the site against Google Safe Browsing. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
What We Collect
When you click "Scan Page" or "Scan Selection", SiftReviews collects:
- Page URL: checked domain reputation via Google Safe Browsing
- Page text content: visible text from the current webpage (up to 2,000 characters) for AI content analysis
- Selection mode: if you select text before scanning, only your selected text is sent. You control exactly what text leaves your browser.
Before transmission, author names, reviewer identities, and bylines are automatically stripped from the text. These never leave your browser.
We do NOT collect: browsing history, personal information, passwords, financial data, or any data from pages you don't explicitly scan.
How We Use It
Collected data is used solely to:
- Analyze text for AI-generated content patterns using Google Gemini
- Check domain reputation against Google Safe Browsing
- Return a reading, with the quoted phrases it is based on
Data Storage
- Scan data is stored temporarily on our server for up to 24 hours
- After 24 hours, scan records are automatically deleted
- We do not create user accounts or persistent profiles
Third-Party Services
SiftReviews uses:
- Google Gemini API: for AI content analysis. Selected or extracted page text is transmitted to Google's Gemini API for analysis. Per Google's API terms, this data is not used to train their models. Text is deleted from SiftReviews servers within 24 hours.
- Google Safe Browsing API: for domain reputation checks (only the URL is checked, not page content)
These services have their own privacy policies. We do not sell or share your data with any other third parties.
Your Control
- The extension only activates when you click "Scan Page" or "Scan Selection"
- You choose which pages to scan
- With selection mode, you choose exactly which text to analyze. Select text before clicking the extension to scan only that portion
- Uninstalling the extension stops all data collection
